I’m sitting in the car on my way back from a relaxing long weekend up at my family’s cottage in northern Wisconsin. Bailey is all tuckered out from a day of paddle boarding and laying in the sunshine and is snuggled on my lap.
Even though the weather was not fabulous, (it rained most of the day Saturday and Sunday) we still managed to have a great time and get in some paddle boarding, a pontoon ride and a fish fry.
I appreciated the change of scenery and the serenity that comes with being in the woods, on a lake, and completely surrounded by nature.
I’ve always been a bit of a wanderer, having lived in 7 states since I graduated from high school and traveling whenever I get the chance (two month long cross-country road trips in the past year). I find that one of the things that inspires me the very most is exploring new places. And of course I love getting away from the hustle of human life and being surrounded by nature.
This was a big motivation for me starting my coaching business. I wanted the freedom and flexibility to work from wherever my heart desired and I wanted to travel.
I recall telling a friend 4 years ago that I was determined to find a career that allowed me to do just that. We had both just graduated from chiropractic school so he laughed at my ‘joke’ and said to tell him when I figured out how to make that happen.
At the time I had no idea how it would happen, but I had no doubt that it would.
It wasn’t until 2 years later, though, that I finally started to take action to make my dreams happen. First, I forced myself to do what I thought I ‘should’ be doing (using my chiropractic degree) and was pretty miserable because I knew I was meant to be doing something different.
What I discovered is that when it comes to following your dreams it is never easy and straightforward. It will never be the perfect time. You will never feel ready. You will never know exactly how it is all going to work out.

But there is one magical question that breaks through all the excuses and obstacles and makes anything possible.
Ready for it?!
Small. Simple. And straight to the point.
If you want something bad enough, just ask yourself ‘how can I make it happen?’
There is always a way. I promise.
You can allow yourself to become paralyzed by the obstacles that stand in your way.
Or you can get courageous and creative and come up with a plan.
Often the things standing between us and our dreams are much smaller and easier to navigate than our minds make them up to be.
For example, I’ve been dreaming of spending some extended time up at our cottage, but we don’t have internet or cell phone service there, which are essential for me to work. Truly I almost didn’t even TRY to make it happen because my monkey mind was telling me that getting internet there (we are in the boonies) would be challenging and even if I did, it wouldn’t be fast enough.
But I really wanted to make it happen so I asked myself the magic question ‘how can I?’
Truly the answer was easy. I called and got internet activated through our phone line.
Problem solved. What I thought was a huge obstacle turned out to be really quite quick and simple to solve.
I’m back in Madison for the week, but then will be heading back to our cottage to spend some time soaking up all that nature and working. Pretty excited to have amazing views of the lake while I work and to spend time paddle boarding, jet skiing, swimming and exploring the north woods. Plenty of pictures to come.

Are you feeling stuck when it comes to starting your business or making changes in your life? Do you feel like a mountain of obstacles is standing in your way?
Instead of feeling completely discouraged, try asking ‘How can I make this happen?’
You will be amazed at the answers that come once you are open to receiving them.
